Library Media Portfolio
The purpose of my portfolio is to document my teaching philosophy, academic growth and professional development. By having a collection of my work, I can best assess myself as I reflect on my strengths and weaknesses. In addition, I can determine how I can improve my teaching abilities. In order to be an efficient, effective and engaging educator, I need to continually reflect and adapt my approach to what methods the students respond to best. By having an electronic portfolio, I can assess my growth and determine areas of strength and weakness in order to improve my teaching ability.
An electronic portfolio also serves as a model to staff and students as to how they can document their own educational artifacts and demonstrate personal and professional growth. By viewing, reflecting and critiquing my portfolio and then creating their own portfolio, students can begin to participate in a online, collaborative learning environment. The future ready learner creates, collaborates and curates online. By documenting their work, students can better understand their strengths and weakness and self-assess their growth.
With regard to the Future Ready dispositions, I believe in fostering the dispositions of persistence, curiosity and an open mind. I believe if students are taught to be curious, they will eventually become self-motivated and propel their own learning forward. Students need to develop the habit of being persistent since obstacles are always present in both life and learning. When a person tends not to give up, one can accomplish a great deal in life and acquire a lot of knowledge along the way as agency is built. Lastly, teaching children to have the disposition of an open mind allows them experiences that will further their intellectual growth. Having a digital portfolio will foster students' analysis and reflection of others and self.
